How should I go about enlisting in the marines as an officer and college student?

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

I am a computer science student. I think I can program stuff for the military to use, like on the ground G.P.S. locations and where to send cruise missiles via satellite, etc. I’m a programmer with a lot of experience.

If I want to contribute to "the effort" in this way, should I enlist in the Marines (the branch I would feel the most pride in, considering my dad was one for 20 years… Army is cool I have no beef), or in a civilian gov’t role?

Note I wouldn’t mind doing deployment in Iraq, especially as some sort of spec ops type, as I am a very rugged individual.

Programming would be #1 though. Please any tips.
p.s. I go to Cal State San Marcos I’m a junior at the moment. Also I can pass very rigid P.T. expectancies, but I am a small guy at 160 lbs (low body fat % tho).

field 68P; need “tough” 19″ lcd monitor for radiograph display?

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

I’m a radiology specialist in the U.S. Army and am looking for some tough, rugged 19" LCD displays that I could use for displaying radiographs in a field environment. We have some rugged notebook computers, but their tiny displays just don’t cut it when it comes to viewing diagnostic quality images, and I would really like to have a 19" or larger LCD capable of supporting higher resolutions (at least 1280×1024, preferably higher). This will have to come with a heavy-duty case and be able to withstand some serious transportation, in the back of 5-ton trucks, conexes, air flights, etc. etc. etc. Does anybody know where I could find such a product? I know Panasonic has developed a line of military/industrial "tough" computers, but I didn’t see any LCDs listed by them.

Thanks.
